Efforts to void Oracle’s possession of the JavaScript trademark have been led by Deno and Node.js creator Ryan Dahl. In a February 4 blog post, Dahl criticized Oracle’s newest transfer. “Yesterday, Oracle filed a movement to dismiss in response to Deno’s petition to cancel its ‘JavaScript’ trademark,” Deno Land CEO Dahl mentioned. “However as a substitute of addressing the true problem—that JavaScript is an open customary with a number of impartial implementations—Oracle is making an attempt to stall the method and sidestep accountability.”

Along with the fraud declare, Deno Land has argued that Oracle mustn’t maintain the trademark, which it acquired when buying Solar Microsystems in 2009, as a result of JavaScript was not an Oracle product and Oracle has deserted the trademark anyway. However Oracle has refused to give up the trademark. “The scenario is self-evident to anybody working in tech,” Dahl mentioned this week. “Oracle didn’t create JavaScript. Oracle doesn’t management JavaScript. Oracle mustn’t personal the trademark for JavaScript.”

Oracle couldn’t be reached for remark concerning the problem on February 5.
